The LaLiT Great Eastern Kolkata, established in 1841 as the Auckland Hotel by confectioner David Wilson, is a distinguished heritage landmark in Kolkata, India. Originally named after then-Governor General Lord Auckland, the hotel has been affectionately known as the "Jewel of the East" and the "Best Hotel East of the Suez" due to its historical significance and esteemed clientele. ​ Throughout its storied history, the hotel has hosted numerous notable figures, including Mark Twain, Nikita Khrushchev, and Queen Elizabeth II.
