This estate, owned by the Dorji family of Bhutan, has historically served as an administrative center for Bhutan's relations with British India. ​ Another significant landmark is the Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Monastery, also known as Durpin Monastery, situated atop Durpin Hill in Kalimpong. Established in 1957 by Dudjom Rinpoche, this Tibetan Buddhist monastery represents Guru Rinpoche's palace, the Glorious Copper Colored Mountain, and houses many rare Buddhist scriptures.
